@boozybetch You have to hand it to Narcissists - of all genders. They really do behave like massive heaps of 💩. They are so convinced of their own right to abuse as cruelly as they like that they feel confident to behave like breathtakingly badly - even in divorce courts.

Doing battle with a Narcissist for what is rightfully yours and best for the children can be a long, hard fight.

They will make it as hard as they can. Even if that means that they come out of it looking unhinged and every bit as toxic as they really are.

You can never make a Narcissist do anything they don’t choose to do.

But at least you can trust that, one way or another, they will be their own comeuppance.

Even if it doesn’t happen in your preferred timeframe.

They really are that vile.

You saw it sooner than most because you were unfortunate enough to let them close to you.

@mommaandmeow So, who actually taught you to speak harshly to yourself? Most likely an abusive parent, family member or other loved one.

Who would want to make you feel like a bad, worthless person? Someone who creates toxic relationships - even with decent loving adults and innocent small children.

Who needed to put you down to make themselves feel better at your expense? A Narcissist who works in the principle that they have to hoover up every good feeling that they can. And are happy to actively deprive others of the oxygen of love and validation in order to do so.

How do you rid yourself of the low self-worth and lack of self-love that results from that kind of - repetitive abuse.

Because these things are never one-offs. They are a toxic person’s way of doing life.

So, you have to learn to love yourself first and show yourself the self-love and self-kindness you need.

Toxic people don’t change and won’t give you what you need. Ever.

But you can change and learn to love yourself first.

You can do that.

Never give up on magic.

But do give up on toxic people and trying to earn the love of a Narcissist.

You deserve better.

A Narcissist’s potential is the ultimate mirage.

You can never develop their - alleged - potential for love and goodness.

But you can develop your own.

Invest your time, energy and love wisely.

We leave it all to Love, Chemistry, Luck and … let’s not forget these two thieves of life, love, health and happiness: Potential and turning a blind eye to red flags.

Contrary to all romantic notions, the hard work of relationships should always be front-loaded: first, do the due diligence to ensure a potential partner is worthy of you. Then enjoy sharing and doing whatever relationship work needs to be done TOGETHER.

No toxic relationship should last more than about 3 months.

By that time, the Narcissist is beginning to exhibit the beginnings of their abusive behavior - even if they still, mostly, sport the lovebombing mask.

An absolute master class on the forgiveness issue from @jimmy_on_relationships . Victims of abuse should never be made to feel that they need to forgive their abuser.

They should never have to carry the load of wanting to let go but needing to hold onto what happened to them, since nobody else is going to validate their experience and their pain.

Survivors have to love themselves and forgive themselves for the abuse that was done to them.

That already requires a LOT of emotional work.

Sadly, people don’t have to take accountability for the harm that they do.

But that tells you who they are.

They are people who are dangerous to you.

You have every reason to stay away from them.

It is your right to accept what they are all too capable of and leave them there.

Your feelings matter.

Take care of them.
